Blair Donovan – Leading by Example

When Blair Donovan first encountered the Rodan + Fields skincare line, she was thoroughly impressed. Her friend, Taryn Monti, introduced her to it, and she became a Preferred Customer right away.

“I told her ‘I’ll be your Customer for life,’ but I didn’t give her a chance to tell me about the business. At the time I was single, a full-time teacher and varsity cheerleading coach, and I felt I was too busy for anything else.” Her busy life continued and transitioned, as Blair attained a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, got married and became pregnant shortly after. Throughout this two-year period, she continued to enjoy the products, and watched as her friend’s business grew. “I told my mom and my aunts about R+F, and they became Customers. At my bachelorette party, Taryn recruited two Preferred Customers and a business partner—and it still didn’t click for me.”

It wasn’t until after Blair had her daughter that she decided to hear Taryn out. “I’d started my maternity leave and was going to be away from work for the rest of that year. I also wanted to help out my friend, so in June 2016 I agreed to jump on a call with her and RFX Circle Achiever, Mallory Hope.” This was when Blair’s outlook totally changed. “In the course of that phone call I realized what I’d been missing out on. I heard the figures, saw where the Company was going, and I finally saw the vision.” She spoke to her husband, Justin, a fellow entrepreneur, and he agreed the opportunity was too good to miss out on. Blair signed up as an Independent Consultant the following day.

The birth of an exciting new career

At the time, Blair had a seven-week-old baby and had happily transitioned from teacher to mother. “After years of looking after other people’s kids, I didn’t want to leave my daughter. I set my heart on being a stay-at-home mom.” She knew, however, that she would not be able to sit at home without a project to fulfill her. “I was very proud of my career and achievements, and I’d worked hard to get where I was. I like to be moving and shaking, and to be part of something bigger, and R+F came at the perfect time to fill that gap.” So Blair eagerly started, fitting about 4 hours a week working her R+F business around her life. “We all have spare moments in our day, when the baby is sleeping or feeding. Those are the times when I built my business, from my phone.” And that investment of time quickly paid off.

The gift of this business allows Blair’s days to revolve around daughter, Style and to never miss a moment.

“When I jumped in, I just started telling everyone about it. I was excited, and people started joining me before I had even started trying to build my team!” Within three months Blair had achieved Level V, and three months later she hit Premier. She couldn’t believe she had waited for two years to sign up, but was determined to make up for lost time. And just 15 months in, she has qualified for her Lexus, while 6 months pregnant with her second child. “This work has been the perfect happy medium for me. I have been able to prioritize my family while still earning an income!”

To put more time into helping and supporting her growing team, she’s increased her hours to 20 per week—and she bursts with pride and admiration when talking about them.

Setting the pace

“My team is a group of passionate and driven people who are high-volume achievers.” And Blair sets the pace for them, using her background in leadership to drive them to succeed and excel. The best way to do that, she says, is by setting an example. “I firmly believe the pace of the leader sets the pace of the team. I want to show my team that I am in the trenches with them, side by side. Every month I’m out there talking about our amazing products and the business, putting in the work. If I want my team to go places, it’s my job to help them get there.”

Seeing them achieve their goals is incredibly heartening and rewarding, and Blair loves the texts that she gets each payday from her team reminding her of all the positive things that R+F is bringing to their lives and their families—and hers. “My Rodan + Fields career gives me even greater fulfillment than teaching. I’m educating, leading, and making a difference in people’s lives every day, while at the same time I get to be at home with my daughter.”

Blair is also determined to show others that success doesn’t always come easy, and that one must suffer rejections and persevere to get ahead. “I hear ‘no’ all day long, too, but they don’t get to me. I want my team to know that if you really want something, no ‘no’ can get in your way.”
