Carly Mazur – Living More and Giving More

Posted by on Tuesday, May 30th, 2017

The lessons we learn as children often stick with us for the rest of our lives, and can stand us in good stead long into the future. Carly Mazur never forgot watching her single mom work several jobs to help support her family, teaching her the importance of a good work ethic. Another influential figure, her 4th grade teacher, inspired Carly to pursue a future in education.

Carly has always understood the importance of having a Plan B so she held two jobs most of her early life and later developed a second career in real estate. However, always open to new ideas, when an exciting opportunity arose, Carly didn’t hesitate to get involved. “I thank my lucky stars I saw this for what it was and followed my gut to think outside the box and jump out of my comfort zone.”

Having two careers was hard work, but Carly was able to fit in her real estate commitments in the evenings and weekends. When Carly had a baby, however, her priorities started to change. Although she loved teaching, she longed to be at home with her daughter. Real estate seemed like a more suitable career because Carly could make her own hours and work on her own terms, but something held her back from fully committing to it. “It felt a little bit too risky to leave teaching for real estate, it was just too unpredictable for me, and required many nights and weekends away from my family in order to be successful.”

In 2014, a friend reached out to Carly to talk to her about becoming a Rodan + Fields Independent Consultant. Her first reaction was to say thanks, but no thanks. She was flattered to be asked, but she felt she simply didn’t have time, what with her two careers and by then, two young children to look after. However, over the next couple of months she kept an eye on her friend’s R+F business, and eventually, her curiosity got the better of her. In February 2015, she tried some of the products, and that sealed the deal. “Ten days later I rang her back to ask, ‘Where do I sign up?’”

With her typical grit and tenacity, Carly dove into her new business, working it alongside her other two careers. She would set her alarm half an hour early in the morning, and work through her lunch at school. The hard work soon started to pay off. Working her R+F business 15 hours a week, she hit Level V within just three months. But what was most impressive was that within 14 months of starting her R+F journey, Carly was able to retire not only from her teaching career, but from real estate as well.

Becoming a powerful role model herself

Now, leading a team of more than 600 Consultants, Carly has never been happier or more inspired with her work, and more importantly, grateful for her newfound free time. Before her R+F journey began, her daughter would ask why she could never attend field trips or help with class parties. When one of their kids was sick, Carly and her husband would make the tough decision as to who would take the day off work. Each morning she would tear up as she dropped her children off at daycare, wishing that she wasn’t missing out on quality time with her loved ones. Now, Carly revels in being a stay-at-home mom and taking an active role in her children’s school lives. “Being there for my kids when they need me is simply priceless,” she declares.

She is also immensely proud to show her daughter that her stay-at-home mom can be a highly successful business leader. “The words ‘I can’t’ shouldn’t be part of my daughter’s vocabulary. I want her to know that she can achieve anything, that if you follow your true passion, hard work and dedication can make anything possible.”

A bright and sunny future

Hailing from Michigan and Chicago, respectively, Carly and her husband Jason, had always dreamed of moving to somewhere warmer. Life and careers, however, got in the way of those plans, so they decided to put it off until retirement provided the money and freedom to do so. However, much to their delight, with the flexibility and income that R+F allowed, last year the family was able to move south to Austin, Texas. “When Rodan + Fields came along and began to change our lives, we were able to say ‘it’s now or never,’ and go for it! Freedom is not having to wait until retirement to live life on our terms.”

The family now follows a new philosophy, encapsulated by Carly’s mantra: “Live more and give more.” In her previous life, she simply did not have time to stop and appreciate the important things, or to give herself fully to those around her. She used to feel like she existed to work, with weekends spent preparing for the following work week, but now that has all changed. “There are so many more rewards in this business than the paycheck. Feeding into my team, empowering others to dream big, and watching them create futures of freedom doing something they love is so rewarding. And to truly live our lives, and be able to give our time and attention to our loved ones is the greatest gift of all. That is the real end goal here, and R+F makes this possible.”
