Christy Nutter – Never Settle
Posted by Rodan + Fields on Wednesday, January 8th, 2014
Christy Nutter is not the type of person to settle. Just like many other young people in her generation, sitting at a cubicle for eight hours a day was never an acceptable option. She pursued several careers, and was happy with her job in public relations at a pediatric hospital for several years before she discovered an even more exciting business opportunity with Rodan + Fields®.
“Coming from a public relations background, I was immediately impressed by the amount of publicity Rodan + Fields had acquired, and at first I inquired about the business opportunity out of pure curiosity.” As a new mother, she was looking for something that would give her more flexibility than her PR job did, and this was an avenue she had never considered. Unfamiliar with direct sales, she joined as an Independent Consultant with no expectations of what the business might do for her financially. She simply followed the business model that was in place, and two years later, she is an RFx Circle Achiever, running her business from the comfort of home. “When I first started, I didn’t realize the full potential of what I could make of this opportunity. I just started sharing the business with people, and I was pleasantly surprised to find so many people out there who were looking for a change in their skincare or a way to supplement their income and have the freedom to work from home, on their own terms.”
Christy’s Rodan + Fields business has now generated a residual income that has surpassed her former full-time PR job, allowing her to focus on motherhood. She works her business in part-time hours, and explains that the most profound impact it has had on her life is how little it interferes with her son’s life. When she was working her former job, he often had to be left with a nanny, and at age two he was very aware of being away from his mom. “After eight months as an Independent Consultant, I remember saying something about working my business in front of my son, and surprised, he said, but mommy, you don’t work! That was an eye-opening moment because that’s how little my business interferes with our family’s daily life.”
Whether you are a new mother looking for a job that allows the freedom to be home with your child, or you’re just seeking a career change, this business can adapt itself to fit whatever stage of life you’re in. That was another part of the appeal for Christy, who, as a young woman, is looking forward to growing her business as it evolves and as her life evolves. “I have worked my business around several stages of life. I did it around my former job, then I worked it around a busy schedule of having a newborn and a toddler at home. It’s great because it can be seamlessly integrated into so many different situations.”
She emphasizes that people should realize they can start their own Rodan + Fields business without having to walk away from the job they’re in, with the option to slowly transition into making it their main focus if they so desire. “There are a lot of people out there who are questioning their current jobs, but they aren’t necessarily ready to make a complete career change. This is something that gives you another option.”
Christy believes that collectively, she and many of her generation have the potential to not only redefine the perception of direct sales, but also benefit the greater good. Having her own Rodan + Fields business is not something many of her peers would have expected her to be doing, and she is glad to be able to introduce the business opportunity to people who wouldn’t otherwise consider it. After creating a lucrative six-figure annual income for herself in only two years, now she is looking forward to the future and how she will be able to make a positive difference while having fun doing it.
“My team and I are all still young, and we’re growing together with our businesses and enjoying it every step of the way. I don’t know right now what the full scope of my purpose will be, but I know that already in two years’ time my team is making a difference in a bigger way than I ever thought possible. The future is so exciting, and I will be working at this with high-caliber people while having fun, and enjoying life to the fullest.”
