Deena Bailey – Rediscovering Your Spirit

Posted by on Wednesday, September 17th, 2014

Deena Bailey was overbooked on her journey to make a difference, but when she decided to refocus her energy on a more efficient way to help people, not only did she make a stronger impact on others’ lives, she also rediscovered her own spirit.

Deena’s perspective on what was important in life completely changed when she lost her husband, Tom Burnett, on 9/11. She spent the years after his death on a journey trying to change the world, one person at a time. She focused her time and energy on volunteer work, doing a lot of public speaking and working for cancer organizations as well as groups that assist children from underprivileged families and battered women. She even started her own foundation, named after her husband, which focuses on teaching middle school students’ patriotism and self-accountability.

Deena loves that her business provides a way for her to give back and help others.

In 2011, a friend of Deena’s, Shelly, introduced her to Rodan + Fields®. “At that time in my life, I was over-committed. I was already in the process of trying to eliminate things from my schedule. I had too many things going on.” But before Shelly could even finish telling her about the business, Deena was on board. “I didn’t know how or when I was going to do it or what I was even getting into, but I knew I didn’t want to miss the opportunity.”

Excited about the chance to do something different and exciting, Deena decided she would find a way to fit her business into her life. “I knew that I had to be a part of it. It was just a matter of clearing enough things off my calendar to build my business the way it should be built.”

As Deena developed her business, she began to see how her decision to become an Independent Consultant was actually a great transition on her journey to change the world. Rodan + Fields allowed her to combine her passion for making a difference with her desire to have a successful career, while also providing something fun to do that was for herself. “Rodan + Fields encourages the same change I was committed to working for 13 years ago. We have a greater vision and a business model that really allows us to make a difference in a unique way. It’s one thing to raise money for someone in need, but it’s completely different to be able to give them a way to help themselves. That’s what I see with my business, a way to actually change someone’s life. And when I see those changes first hand, it really shows me that I am truly helping in a way that is probably more lasting than what I was doing before through my volunteer work.”

Deena

Deena is grateful that her business doesn’t take her away from her family.

Knowing what it’s like to have a full schedule, Deena encourages others to never let a busy life keep them from what could be a life-changing opportunity. One of her favorite parts about the experience is that she has been able to do the things she wants and grow her business at the same time without giving anything up. “I was a stay-at-home mom when my husband passed away and continued to stay home with my kids after that. They would sometimes wonder why I didn’t work, but Tom and I had planned for me to be a part of their lives and raise them by staying home. So I was dedicated to continuing to do that.”

Partnering with R+F allowed her daughters to see a different side of her. “I found that my girls were so proud of me because I was working and achieving success. It was really fun to see the changes in their attitudes and how they perceived what I was doing. It became a great way to show them that I can have a successful career and still not miss out on anything they do. And now that they are 18, they have joined me in my business too.”

Sharing the opportunity to achieve joy and success is so rewarding for Deena.

As with everything in life, there are still difficult moments, but, when Deena faces an obstacle, she reminds herself that as long as she remains consistent, she can get anywhere she wants to go. “If I’m discouraged, I just think how, by making a phone call, there is a potential benefit on the other side of it for the person I’m sharing with, whether financially or through personal development.” As her journey to fuel change and make the world a better, more compassionate place continues, Deena works to share the joy she rediscovered, hoping others may experience a renewal as well.
