Dianne DeLongchamps – Destined to Pursue Her Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity

Posted by on Friday, October 9th, 2015

While searching for a job post-graduation, Dianne DeLongchamps was presented with an opportunity to work with a forward-thinking entrepreneur who had started a computer company out of his garage in Texas. Unfamiliar with the industry, and unsure if she had the knowledge or skills to be successful, she politely declined. Several of her friends, who had said, “yes” to the opportunity, went on to build successful careers and extraordinary futures with this startup that grew to be a global company.

Twenty years later, after establishing herself professionally, Dianne began searching for a better work-life balance, and was considering her options. As she listened to a friend give a presentation about a Company with a fresh perspective on a growing industry, she suddenly had a flashback to the last time she’d encountered this type of unique opportunity. Knowing in her heart that the road she was on wasn’t going to create the future she desired, Dianne decided it was time to make a change and take a chance on herself—she decided that she wasn’t going to let this opportunity slip by.

Looking for more

After Dianne met her husband Paul in Houston, Texas, the couple moved to Denver, Colorado. For six years, Dianne worked as the regional sales manager for a global company, but in 2001, she was laid off. Rather than returning to “corporate America,” Dianne and Paul decided to start their own catering company. “It was fun, and our business was successful, but a few years later, we had twins, and it became a lot harder to maintain any type of work-life balance. Our kids were being raised in daycare and we were working long hours, including nights and weekends. I was exhausted and felt like I was missing out on being the mom I wanted to be.”

In 2009, a friend from her children’s preschool approached her about the Rodan + Fields® business opportunity, but Dianne thought she was too busy with her catering business to think about anything else. A few months later, as the economy worsened, Dianne and her husband nearly lost their company. “It was our sole source of income, so to have that threatened was a huge wake-up call—it made me realize that we needed to consider a ‘Plan B.’” Dianne decided it was time to look at some options and, after researching R+F, found the Doctors’ reputations and history very compelling. She was excited by the potential she saw to earn a supplemental income on her own terms. “I enjoy the freedom to make my own decisions and decide what my future will look like—that autonomy was available to me with R+F.”

Grasping potential

Dianne enrolled as an Independent Consultant in January of 2010, and although she was nervous to try something new, she was also excited. “I was looking for something that fulfilled me—something that would enable me to continue to grow as a person. I wanted an opportunity that would allow me to become a better version of myself, and I thought this could be it.” Later that year, Dianne attended the annual R+F Convention, and getting the chance to listen to the Doctors speak helped her grasp the potential of what she had in her hands even more. “I remember them saying, ‘We’ve paved the path for you; all you have to do is go out there and build your business.’ It was then that I understood how this opportunity could change so many people’s lives, including my own. There was a proven system in place, and I just had to do the work to achieve my goals and create the life I dreamed of.”

Dianne worked her business part-time while continuing with her catering company full-time. She steadily built a team, and as her R+F business developed, she was blown away by the growth that was happening around her. “It’s truly amazing what you can create with this business model. The growth of my team and the positive impact in my overall life was quickly noticeable to me.” In May of 2011, working five to ten hours a week, Dianne achieved Level V, and six months later, she replaced the income it had taken her ten years to create with her catering company. In 2014, Dianne and Paul sold their company, and Paul took a year off to spend some quality time with their children. Dianne continued with R+F and in August of 2015, Paul joined her in business.

Now, as partners, they’re both enjoying the mobility of a virtual business. They’ve moved to a smaller town with a better environment for raising their children, and the time freedom they’ve gained enables them to be active in their kids’ lives. Dianne is also looking forward to traveling more with her family. “One of my driving forces has always been the opportunity to travel, see the world and volunteer for global causes with my children and my husband. That’s going to happen for us next year, and that would never have been possible with a conventional career. I can take my business wherever I go—anywhere I have Internet access—and enable my family to have an experience of a lifetime while working along the way.”

Embracing a new kind of growth

From the beginning, Dianne adopted a willingness to improve herself, knowing that was the way to achieve her goals. “As my business grew, my role changed, and I had to learn how to become a stronger leader and a better support system for others on my team. I didn’t have the background for that, but as I looked inward and focused on the areas I recognized needed work, I became more confident in myself and my ability to be successful, and that enabled me to help others do the same.”

Dianne loves empowering people to break through self-reservations, take a chance on themselves, and trust that they’re capable of making a change in their lives. “So often, when we feel stuck, we think that the answer is to try harder. Not enough people take a step back to evaluate their lives and ask ‘If I keep doing what I’m doing, where will I be in five years? And is that where I want to be?’” It’s so rewarding for Dianne to watch others achieve things they never believed they could. “Anyone can become good at something if they are willing to devote the time to learning and practicing. I believe that we were all put on this Earth to do something special, and when I’m able to help someone step into their greatness, it touches my heart.”

Endless possibilities

Dianne’s business has shown her that when the life you’ve created doesn’t turn out to be the one you want, it’s okay to do something different. “I want people to know that there are options; just because you have a certain degree or background doesn’t mean you can’t design a new future and build the life you’ve dreamed of. This opportunity is a gift that allows you to take control, be self-sufficient and not depend on anyone else to fulfill your goals.”

Dianne spent a long time looking for something that gave her a purpose and enabled her to make a difference, and she’s finally found that. “This is the first time I’ve been able to have a positive effect on the lives of others, and I want other people to understand what this business can do for them. Whether they’re looking for financial and time freedom, friendships, personal growth, a supportive community, or a better work-life balance, this business model offers so many possibilities—the best of which is the ability to spend more time doing the things you enjoy with the people you love. But it all depends on you—your success is a result of your commitment to consistency, your ability to be coachable, and your desire to make a change—and this business is exactly that type of opportunity that could enable you to have it all.”
