Erin Bugbee – Building on a Busy Life

Posted by on Thursday, October 19th, 2017

As a unit manager for one of the largest emergency departments in Canada, Erin Bugbee had her challenging full-time job well in hand. This registered nurse was also raising two young children and working on a master’s degree in her limited spare time—she was a walking definition of “busy.” However, Erin’s go-getter attitude and determination for success made her excited about adding one more thing to her plate.

“I’m of the philosophy that busy people do get stuff done! So when my friend Kelly Jo Higgins called to tell me about this great opportunity with Rodan + Fields®, I thought it sounded like a great idea. I was probably the easiest recruit known to man. I said yes right away.” Erin waited in anticipation for a few months before starting her business in February of 2015, the day that R+F officially launched in Canada.

An unexpected community

From the beginning, Erin fell in love with the products. “The skincare products are amazing. I’ve used them all, all over my body. Today, I look back at before-and-after photos and realize that this really is life-changing. But what really grew on me was the camaraderie among my team. That was an unexpected delight and bonus.”

Erin found that these new friendships helped her to dispel some beginner’s doubts. The start of her new business “was exciting and scary all at the same time, but it was worth it. It’s all about the people that you meet, how close you become, and how you work together for a common goal.” And for Erin, these new friendships helped her reach even higher. “My team really is amazing on multiple levels. They’re collaborative, helpful, and supportive. We’re really able to lock arms and move together as a team, which is fantastic. Nobody gets here by themselves, that’s for sure!”

Balancing her incredibly busy life

Erin is a perfect example of how Independent Consultants manage to fit everything in. She gets up around 4:30 every morning to work her Rodan + Fields business before heading to the hospital. “It’s worth it, but it’s not easy. You have to be very self-motivated, and it’s all too easy to want to give up when things aren’t going how you want them to. You have to keep going, and don’t quit.”

Though there’s not much overlap between Erin’s two worlds of emergency care and skincare, she was able to utilize much of her existing skillset in this new role. “Skills that transferred for me were organization, prioritization, leadership, and not being afraid to have conversations with people. This business involves putting yourself out there more, and it’s a very different journey compared with healthcare and nursing. It’s changing my life and my projection for the better, and I believe it’s worth it.”

Surprised by her own success

Erin initially worked roughly 10 hours per week with R+F, with the goal of paying for her own products. She was surprised to find in November of 2016 that after months of hard work and team focus she had become a Premier V Lexus driver! “I didn’t even realize I was at that point until it was right around the corner! We weren’t in a Lexus run or anything, but we just kept building and that consistency built momentum. When you’re doing so many different things all at once, you just plug away, and you don’t really think about it. I was so shocked that for months I thought they were going to call and ask for the car back!”

Now fully aware of her potential, Erin was excited to take part in the Premier V Incentive Trip. “This Company is amazing when it comes to rewards! We just got back from Napa and we met some other amazing Canadians down there. It was empowering to be there with other people who I know worked really hard to get there. The attention to detail, organization, and training were all top-notch, so I felt very honored to be there.”

What’s even more important to Erin are the changes she’s been able to make in her family’s life due to her work with Rodan + Fields. “It’s a productive business that is building a different life for us. I wrote a check for my kids’ activities for the entire year without even thinking about it, and without having to worry about picking up an overtime shift. We’ve also had so many more opportunities to do things together as a family. I’m really happy to do this and have my children know that hard work does actually pay off.”

Toward the future

In the end, Erin is most passionate about bringing others with her into success. “I still really enjoy both avenues of nursing and Rodan + Fields. So I don’t actually even think it’s about me; I’m interested in what this business can do for the rest of my team. In five years I want to be on a trip with them, looking back and saying ‘Look at how this has changed our lives!’ I really want that for them, more than anything. This is a group of people that are doing amazing things together, and I’m proud to be a part of it. The opportunity to change your life is completely up to you!”
