Heather Whyte – Seeking Self-Development

Posted by on Thursday, May 18th, 2017

A work-life balance can be hard to attain but when you find the new path that meshes perfectly with your family priorities, you can achieve that balance and begin truly making an impact in the lives of others.

Heather Whyte, a stay-at-home mom for 14 years, knew the feeling. Though she was committed to remaining home with her children, she “missed working—the socialization, travel, and feeling like I was contributing to something bigger than myself. It’s very hard to go from bringing in an income to being a stay-at-home parent. I knew I had more to contribute, and I felt like I could use my marketing and customer service skills in some way.”

Falling in love with her results

A new opportunity came in the form of a life-changing skincare product. Heather had long been dissatisfied with her sun-damaged, dry skin. “I hadn’t found anything in the past 20 years that would help my dry skin. I was allergic to pretty much everything on the market, and it was a bummer. A friend (later my Sponsor) left a sample of the SOOTHE™ Regimen on my doorstep, and within two days I noticed a huge difference in the way my skin looked and felt. I think my skin was ready for Rodan + Fields®!”

After becoming a Preferred Customer, Heather was ready to try some of the other products that R+F offered. “I purchased the RFX Express Business Kit in March of 2015 with no intention of doing the business,” she laughs. She made one post on Facebook about the results she was experiencing, and “before I knew it, people were messaging me and asking me questions about the products. I was freaking out because I didn’t know much about the Company yet!” Heather’s Sponsor, Tiffany Watrous, suggested that she try to earn enough to pay for her own products, and a conversation with fellow Consultant Natalie Flowers inspired Heather even more for the future. “From there, it just started to take off!”

Heather worked 10 hours per week and achieved her first title promotion to Executive Consultant in April of 2015, within one month of starting her own business. She spent hours learning the R+F ropes and sharing the products with everyone she could. “I had my Kit in the back of my car and would share directly with all of my friends. I’m not shy!” Heather’s husband Forrest also used the products and started sharing them with his coworkers, and before long they were “in awe of what this business could do for us and others in our life.”

Watching her team thrive

As the Customers kept seeking her out, Heather was ecstatic. “I wasn’t focused on having a team for the first four to five months. I was building a Customer base because that’s what I was comfortable with—and what I thought my limited time as a busy mom allowed.” It wasn’t until a little later that once again she found herself stumbling upon the next stage in the business: growing her own team. In June of 2015, Heather ran into a friend at the nail salon who was curious about her R+F journey. “The next thing I knew, she was my first direct Independent Consultant!”

From there, Team Thrive only grew—and experienced a lot of personal growth. “Public speaking was my biggest fear. When I started this business I really had to learn on the spot how to talk to people. I’ve definitely gotten better at socializing with others because of Rodan + Fields!” Heather is passionate about helping her quieter team members make the same progress.

“A lot of us were afraid to speak in public in the beginning, but we’ve come a long way. I’m so thankful that this opportunity has not only helped me, but it’s proof that you can become a better speaker and you can come out of your introverted shell. I wish I had a recording of some of my team’s first presentations so that I could show them how much they’ve grown.”

And Heather sees how R+F positively affects more than public speaking skills. “Watching my business partners be able to take vacations, pay off debt, and recover from familial loss… Seeing what it’s doing for people personally and in their personal development, to me, is worth more than the money.”

Maintaining big goals for the future

This self-starter has life-sized goals that are inspiring others around her. “When I first started working my R+F business, my why was to help my husband start his own business. Now my goals are ever-changing!” Even her kids are getting inspired by Heather’s success. Aiden (13) and Noah (11) “have more of an entrepreneurial mindset now. When someone asks them what they want to be when they grow up, they say they want to own their own businesses.”

Heather finally realized that self-development was the worthy and attainable goal she had been missing all along. The Level V Achiever says, “I’ve always had that entrepreneurial spirit in me. Even before Rodan + Fields, I knew that I had to contribute to something. I’ve realized that owning your own R+F business doesn’t always have to be about finances… It could be about you.” She wants to encourage others that “you can be a little selfish with this, because your own self-development can help others along the way.”
