Jacquie Qualls – A Steely Determination to Succeed

Posted by on Thursday, September 7th, 2017

After 25 years of negotiating multi-million dollar steel contracts for the automotive industry, Jacquie Qualls was at the top of her game. At 62 years of age, she had a lifetime of experience behind her, a lifetime in which she had excelled in several careers before getting into the steel industry. After an exceptionally successful few months, she was called into the head office. Presuming she was coming in for a performance review and a raise, she was floored when the HR director offered her a severance package instead. “It was 2008, and business was down nationally. In order to save themselves money, they dissolved my position and gave my accounts to someone younger. I never realized before that I could work my way out of a job!”

When one door closes, another opens

Widowed some ten years before, Jacquie had thrown herself into her work wholeheartedly, and still had no intention of retiring. “I didn’t really consider giving up work. I felt I had a lot of good years left in me, I just needed to find the right new career.” Having worked for others her whole life, she decided that this time she wanted to be her own boss and make her own schedule. She looked around for possibilities, until one day she met a stranger who introduced her to a new and exciting market. He told her about Rodan + Fields®, and the opportunity to become an Independent Consultant with them, running her own skincare company, on her own terms. “I was immediately impressed by the Doctors and their business model, and surprised by the low startup cost. To me it was no-brainer, so in January 2009, I jumped right onboard.”

A veteran saleswoman, Jacquie had risen to the top in a tough and often male-dominated environment, and she had learned a lot along the way. “I learned to have a thick skin. Sales in steel don’t come overnight, it can take months, even years to close deals. But perseverance and hard work always pay off.” Setting out on her R+F journey, the first thing Jacquie realized was that she wasn’t going to make much progress with her personal network. “I went through my network in about two hours! My job had been my life, especially after the loss of my husband, so I didn’t have much of a social circle. But I wasn’t going to fail—I’ve never failed in my career.” With that iron will, she set out each day to share the business with strangers.

Building bridges

“I had to get out of the house and meet people face-to-face. I would initiate conversations that would lead to relationships based on trust. Once people get to know me, they trust me.” Sharing her business with everyone she encountered, and growing it one person at a time, Jacquie soon saw results. But it wasn’t until she was invited to her first R+F Convention that she really saw the true potential of her new career. “When I first joined, I saw this as something I could do to make a little extra money and stay busy, but after that trip I realized the power of what we had in our hands. The people I met and the insight into the business I gained were truly inspirational.” From that moment on, Jacquie redoubled her efforts. “For the first two years, I barely came up for air. I could see that this business was going places, and I wanted to take as many people as I could with me!”

Within six months she hit Level V, and four years in she was among the earliest RFX Circle achievers—a title she has maintained ever since. She works her business 30 hours a week on average, and is showing no signs of slowing down. “I have well over a hundred Lexus Achievers in my team, and 30 RFX Achievers, but I still prospect every time I leave the house. I’m going to keep going ’til I can’t go anymore!” And having earned every RFX Incentive Trip for the past six years with a lot of hard work, she is also seeing the world for free in her retirement years. She has visited Bora Bora, London, Paris, Thailand, Maui, and Australia, and has already qualified for the trip to Cannes next year. While she loves all the travel, Jacquie is also very proud to be an inspiration to budding entrepreneurs. “My story is an example of how anyone, at any age, could excel in this business.”

Forging a bright future

Jacquie has stuck to her resolution to take everyone along for the ride with her. She now has a team of thousands across the U.S. and Canada, and makes a great effort to get to know all of her leaders personally. “There is so much talent in my organization, and I am so proud of the men and women that make up my wonderful team. I just love being able to guide others down the road to prosperity. Regardless of age, experience, or background, if you are willing to work, you can pursue the same success.”

Tell Me More…

Where do you draw your inspiration from in life? My dad. He was a hard worker that loved people and I always wanted to be just like him.

Biggest regret? Having always worked for someone else I never realized I had options—I should have become an entrepreneur years ago.

Favorite vacation? Of all my vacations and world travel with Rodan + Fields, I would have to choose London. It was an amazing experience and I hope to return again soon.

Favorite song? The Time Of My Life.

What is your favorite R+F memory? Being on the yacht with Dr. Katie Rodan discussing my team and the lives that had changed due to Rodan + Fields.

What was the biggest R+F hurdle you overcame? Getting over my fear of public speaking!
