Jennie Klassen – The Freedom to Dream Again

Posted by Rodan + Fields on Tuesday, July 25th, 2017

Prior to becoming a stay-at-home-mom six years ago, Jennie Klassen worked as an accountant for a large corporation—a job that paid well, but did little to inspire her. “I’m a people person. Sitting behind a desk all day with little social interaction was not my thing, and I used to dread going to work each morning.” However, after a few years not working, she became restless. “I got the itch to get back into the working world, and to have something for myself again.”

Making new connections

So she began to look into options. She needed something that she could do on her own terms, from home, on a part-time basis. And, most importantly, it had to be something that she was passionate about—not another adequate, yet boring job. But after years of working in accounting, Jennie was afraid that she wasn’t qualified to do anything else. “I felt like accounting was all I knew, like I was destined to be stuck crunching numbers.” Yet she resolved not to fall back into the familiar setting, and to find something new and truly exciting.

It was then that she saw a Facebook post featuring the Rodan + Fields® business model. Jennie had never heard of R+F, but she was intrigued, and asked her friends about it. They put her in touch with Lauren Tenney, which began the firm friendship and fruitful business partnership that changed Jennie’s future. After speaking with Lauren, Jennie did her own research, and decided that the opportunity was too good to pass up. “The figures were really what attracted me most. I knew nothing about skincare, and had zero sales experience, but I did understand the numbers, and I was impressed.” So, in March of 2014, Jennie took the plunge and signed up as an Independent Consultant with Rodan + Fields.

A positive projection for the future

While Jennie admits she was nervous at the beginning, she soon realized that she was a natural; all she had to do was what she loves—talk and share her enthusiasm with others. “In corporate accounting, I never felt like I was helping anyone. In this business, I help somebody every day, either with their skin or with their own business.” She hasn’t hung up her accounting spurs totally though, as these skills have been very useful to her in her new role. They helped her see, from an early point, that her business was headed in the right direction. “I knew very quickly that I was becoming profitable, so I decided to give it my all. I could see this could be a game changer for my family. After eighteen months I replaced my old income, working only part-time hours.”

To begin with, Jennie worked her R+F business 10-15 hours per week, but as her team grew, she increased to 20-25 hours per week. Her husband, Chris, has been hugely supportive and encouraging since day one, and is blown away by the success of Jennie’s business. “Chris and I never saw ourselves having this kind of financial freedom at this point in our lives—it’s beyond our dreams, and it’s the same for many of my team members.” The couple is just about to start building their dream home, and they have traveled to amazing destinations with Rodan + Fields, including Maui and Mexico earlier this year. These R+F trips are an unexpected benefit of her new career, and add to the unrivaled social world her business has created.

Finding her place in a new community

Her mentor, Lauren, once told her, “This is your own business, but you’re never in it alone,” and this piece of wisdom has proven true beyond Jennie’s expectations. Not only has Lauren become one of her closest friends, but Jennie has also reconnected with dozens of old friends and colleagues, and made hundreds of new friends. Nearby members of her team—Team Klass—meet once a month in her hometown for local events, and just recently Jennie spent the day at the beach with four of her R+F business partners and their families.

Jennie bursts with pride and gratitude for her thriving team, and relishes the rewards that R+F has brought them and their families. Her own family, once making it work with one income, now has the freedom to live life to the fullest. She delights in showing her kids that with hard work they can do whatever they want to, and with her Rodan + Fields earnings, she has been able to start a college fund for them, to give them the best start possible. “R+F has opened the door for our family to dream again, and to never let anything hold us back!”
