Jennifer Boucher – Using Her Business Savvy to Help Those in Need

Posted by on Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

Our early experiences can dictate the paths our lives take long into the future. As a child, Jennifer Boucher witnessed her 8-year-old brother get hit by a car, and vividly remembers the profound effect it had on their family. Her brother recovered, thanks to the efforts of the local children’s hospital, but the events left an indelible mark on Jennifer’s mind and heart. After the accident, Jennifer felt deep empathy for the other children in the hospital. “I can remember thinking they needed help, but I didn’t know what to do.” It’s this memory, she says, that inspired her to seek a career where she could help sick children and their families in their times of need.

For many years, Jennifer worked for a large cancer center in New York City, running all of their major fundraising events. This work further galvanized her goals, and strengthened her resolve to help those in need. “I realized that I have to improve the lives of sick children as much as I possibly can.”

Being an Independent Consultant with Rodan + Fields helped Jennifer Boucher find her true purpose.

Discovering a true purpose

After she had her first child, Jennifer made the decision to give up her job and concentrate on finding a career that would give her more time to spend with her family. She sat down to brainstorm with her good friend Melissa McCarthy, who had also recently had a baby and was loathe to return to a full-time job. The two women were sure they could come up with a plan: “something that we could do together, from home, so that we could be there with the kids.”

One day, Melissa approached Jennifer with an idea that she thought could be the one, which was setting up their own skincare business through Rodan + Fields. Jennifer was intrigued and impressed by the cutting edge business model that the company offered. In early 2011, the pair signed up as Independent Consultants and Jennifer was eager to try it. “Deep down in my bones, I knew this was going to be a big deal.” And it didn’t take long for success to come her way.

Impressed by the company's business model, Jennifer Boucher signed up to be an Independent Consultant with Rodan + Fields.

“During my first year with R+F, I figured out what my skill set was, and started to get good at it. But I still didn’t fully understand how all this was going to fit into my life,” Jennifer admits. But then it dawned on her that the happiest and most fulfilling period of her life had been her time at the cancer center, working with pediatric patients. “I realized that I wanted to be a full-time volunteer, something that many people told me was an unrealistic dream.” Jennifer, however, could see that her R+F business had the potential to make that fantasy come true. “I’m at home with my kids and I’m making a living—this is going to be the way to realize the dream.” And once Jennifer had found her “why,” there was no stopping her.

A means to an honorable end

Jennifer continued to care for her family and succeed in her R+F business. “When I was pregnant with my second son, I made the goal of hitting Level V before he was born. When I was six months pregnant with my next baby, I set the goal of hitting Elite V before she was born.” The next goal was RFx, which she achieved in the same month that her daughter began to sleep through the night, all while working her business about 10 hours a week.  She loves setting her R+F goals to match her family’s milestones—it just reinforces how her R+F business allows her to be there for her family, and constantly reminds her of all she’s gained and stands to gain in the future.

Being a Rodan + Fields Independent Consultant has allowed Jennifer Boucher to spend more time with those who matter most: her family.

Three kids under six, each bringing their unique piece to the R+F story.

During this time, she reached a point where she could donate some money to charity every month instead of every year, and she began to share this on her Facebook page. “I would donate a portion of my earnings to a chosen charity each month.” With twelve charities a year to donate to, she started to ask her team for suggestions, and the idea really took off. “It blossomed into this big, beautiful giving tree.”

A legacy of philanthropy

Jennifer’s toughest problem, she says, is that there are so many worthy causes, it’s almost impossible to pick just one. She gives back to the cancer center as much as she possibly can, and is also a strong supporter of the Rodan + Fields Prescription for Change® Foundation; she personally funded more than four hundred student program days in the last year. She also works with a local social services association that performs a range of good work in the community: from paying a local 90-year-old woman’s electricity bill to donating Christmas and birthday presents to children whose parents can’t afford them. “Any need we see that isn’t being met, we aim to help.”

For Jennifer Boucher, the most fulfilling thing about being a Rodan + Fields Independent Consultant is that it's allowed her to give generously to charity.

One day, Jennifer’s goal is to set up her own charity, but in the meantime, she is very proud to be able to show her three children that it is possible to be a stay-at-home mom while making a valuable difference in the world. “I want them to know that everything is possible. You can have it all.” She is incredibly grateful that her business has made it possible for her to answer her true calling. “Without my Rodan + Fields business, I couldn’t have the freedom to do what I do.”
