Jenny Taylor – Time Changes Everything

Posted by on Monday, January 27th, 2014

“The moment I saw her, everything changed.” That is how Jenny Taylor felt when her newborn daughter was first placed in her arms. As she held this tiny life, she knew that she wanted to spend every possible moment she could with her, and to be there for every new experience she would encounter in the world. Jenny had spent the last twenty years climbing the corporate ladder in marketing and public relations, and she wondered when she became pregnant with her daughter whether or not she might be eager to get back to work after she was born. That question was immediately answered in that moment she held her child, and the answer was no. Despite how well she had been advancing in her career, motherhood was more important. “The farther I got up the ladder, the less time freedom I had. I was making a great paycheck, and I had less and less time to enjoy it. Once I became a mother, I realized that I wasn’t willing to trade in a single day of being with her for life in that world, no matter what the dollar amount.”Jenny Taylor

Jenny began looking for a way out of her corporate career so that she could concentrate on motherhood, but she still wanted to keep financial security by contributing to her family’s income. A family member told her about the business opportunity with Rodan + Fields®, and even though it didn’t seem like something she would typically be interested in, she knew she at least had to give it a shot. “I didn’t want to be haunted by the question, what if that was my way out of this situation and I was too blind to see it? She joined the Company as an Independent Consultant, and just over two years of working her business ten to fifteen hours a week around her full-time job, she was finally able to leave her corporate career behind. But her success did not come overnight. When Jenny first started her Rodan + Fields business, she had a demanding schedule. “I’m not going to say it wasn’t messy and a little bit difficult in the beginning. I was still working directly for the CEO, and my schedule was very hectic. I fit in my Rodan + Fields time whenever I could, because I knew that it would eventually pay off and give me a new life, and now it has.”

During those first two years of diligent effort, Jenny admits that there were days when she didn’t always feel like working on her Rodan + Fields business, because her full-time job was so demanding of her time. “I kept a picture of my daughter with me all the time, and whenever I didn’t feel like putting in the time for my business or making those calls, I would ask myself, is it worth it? Looking at my daughter’s picture, the answer was obvious. Of course it was worth it, because she was worth it.” She thought of all the things she didn’t want to miss out on in her daughter’s life. There would be big things like graduation ceremonies, but just as important were all the little things: breakfast together every morning, and bath time. Those are the moments that matter while the clock is ticking on, and they are what accumulate to make up a life.

“I had been working for many years in a job that didn’t put family first. With Rodan + Fields, I can put my family first, and thanks to the years I made those initial sacrifices, my life is completely different now.”

The life Jenny leads today is worth every sacrifice she made to free herself from her corporate job. Being able to slow down has allowed her to realize what her true passions are, and to ask herself what it is that brings her happiness and fulfillment. “Before, I didn’t have time to think about what really made me happy because I just had to get through one day to the next. Now I can ask myself what drives me, and how I can contribute to making the world a better place. I can be actively giving back, and I can show my daughter how to give back as well. That to me is priceless.”

Being able to invest in herself and her community and being an example to her daughter along the way is exactly the kind of life Jenny envisioned when she first started as an Independent Consultant with Rodan + Fields. She has learned valuable insights about herself and others that this business has shown her, including asking herself what her strengths and weaknesses are, and how she wants to spend her time and energy. “This business gives you the chance to learn how to be the best version of yourself you can be, and I’m honored to be a part of showing other people how to do that. I quickly learned when I first started doing this that I had to put myself out there, and I didn’t know how in the beginning. But I invested the time, and time truly does change everything.”
