Kelly Sleece – Hop On Board

Posted by on Tuesday, April 4th, 2017

When you have a career you enjoy and a life that’s fulfilling, it’s sometimes hard to imagine how anything might add to your experience. But even if you’re already content, it’s good to keep your eyes open so you don’t miss a new opportunity that might come your way.

After 16 years of climbing the corporate ladder, Kelly Sleece thought she had it all. As an energized and challenged executive in the financial industry, this Manhattan transplant didn’t ever foresee veering toward a different career path. However, a surprising opportunity came along and provided her with new options.

An opportunity approaches

Six years ago, Kelly was actively supporting her friend Melissa McCarthy’s Rodan + Fields® business, by becoming one of Melissa’s first Preferred Customers. She started with the SOOTHE Regimen, and before long had happily sampled every product Melissa recommended. Though she loved the products, Kelly didn’t consider the possibility of partnering with Melissa in a bigger way.

“It just didn’t click for me to join the business. The reason that so many others joined was to stay home with their kids or transition out of unfulfilling careers, but I was single with a career in the city that I loved. I’ve been very fortunate professionally and just wasn’t looking for anything to change.”

Choosing to board the train

When Kelly got married later in March of 2014, Rodan + Fields unexpectedly became a much bigger part of her life. Melissa had shared her story with Kelly’s friends at the wedding reception and generated a lot of interest in the business. Not wanting to leave Kelly out, Melissa had a “heart to heart” with her and encouraged her to join as well. “Melissa didn’t want everyone else to be sitting by the pool, sipping margaritas without me.”

For the first time, Kelly considered branching out into the R+F business world. “I realized that as I was busy climbing the corporate ladder, I wasn’t giving this opportunity enough credit. Melissa was living proof that the business model can be successful. I didn’t want to miss the train.” With that, she decided to become an Independent Consultant and signed on a handful of her wedding guests to her brand-new team.

Embarking on her first journey

Kelly’s business got off to a quick start due to the wedding buzz. She and her sister Meghan, who also joined Rodan + Fields that week (and, coincidentally, works just down the hall in the same Manhattan office building), signed a group of Consultants within their first month. “It was great to have all that energy,” Kelly says, especially because she was prepared to share products that she already loved.

“I think the products are great, and that made it much easier for me when I finally got on board. I laughed when I got my business kit, because my bathroom already looked like the package I received. Now I have two of everything!”

After an exciting start, Kelly stayed the course even when her business experienced a bit of a lull. She put her faith in the process and followed the advice of her Upline mentors. “It’s about believing in what you’re doing and sticking with it regardless of what happens. Even during my plateau year, I never lost sight of what this opportunity could be.” She consistently worked her Rodan + Fields business 10 hours a week on top of her challenging finance career, and achieved Level IV this past November.

A message for prospective passengers

As Kelly and her supportive husband Michael prepare to welcome their first baby this spring, there are some big decisions on the horizon. Kelly still intends to work both jobs, but is thankful that her life is now more in her control. “The corporate landscape is changing at a rapid pace, and you just never know when your situation may change. I am certain my Rodan + Fields business will play a significant role in my ability to hang up my suits if that time ever comes.”

Kelly is also inspired by seeing others on her team make big, positive life decisions because of R+F. “Everyone has the very same opportunity to be as successful as the next person,” she explains. “With this business, you can earn financial freedom on your own terms—creating the freedom to make life choices that other career paths wouldn’t allow. Regardless of what you’re doing, R+F is a great opportunity for anyone.”
