Kristin Stapleton – Finding Her Spark Again

Posted by Rodan + Fields on Thursday, February 15th, 2018

Before her life took a surprising turn, Kristin Stapleton worked in brand management for a major pet food company. “I was in my dream job right out of business school. I loved my team, and the work was both challenging and rewarding. I worked long hours and traveled frequently, but I actually thrived on those experiences.” However, when Kristin and her husband Mark had their first of three boys, it became much harder to juggle two demanding careers. When her oldest son was two years old, Kristin made the tough decision to give up her career, leaving her full-time position.

Fortunately, Kristin was able to continue with the company by consulting part-time, finding balance between professional fulfillment and a desire for more time with her family. “I continued to do work I enjoyed and loved having more flexibility to be home with my boys.” But over time, life as a consultant became less fulfilling. “I didn’t feel like part of a team anymore. It was a lonely place to be and I lacked the passion that I once had. I longed to feel like I was a part of something bigger than me again.”

Open to opportunity

Kristin started looking for other solutions that would allow her to contribute to her family’s finances while continuing to have time for her family. She yearned to fulfill a purpose apart from her important role as a mom, but struggled to make anything outside of consulting fit. “I had basically given up on finding the perfect position. But then I noticed a friend from college, Kerry Heiple, posting about Rodan + Fields, and I became intrigued by the opportunity.”

When Kerry shared details about her skincare business, Kristin was immediately interested in the business and earning potential. “I loved the idea of partnering with the Doctors and being a part of the strong brand they were building. I was also impressed by the brand’s incredible growth, the online nature of the business, and its low initial investment.” But Kristin’s excitement was tempered by some beginner’s doubt. “I wasn’t sure that I would be good at sales — but after learning more I realized it’s more about sharing something you love… and I thought, I can do that!” Feeling inspired, Kristin became an Independent Consultant in February 2014.

Busy and excited

When Kristin launched her business, her dream was to work towards being able to leave her consulting job. “My goal was to have complete flexibility and control of my time — ironically, life got really crazy right after I started my business. We had a lot going on with the kids, we unexpectedly put an offer on a new house, and I moved to a new group with my consulting gig. Life is crazy with three boys anyway, but add two new jobs and a new house to the mix, and things were manic!” But Kristin committed to getting her new business off the ground and put in around 12 hours per week, multitasking during her commute and in the school pick-up line.

Though busy, Kristin found herself energized by her new R+F community. “I had a lot of great Customers who were excited about the products and their results. I was also really eager to work with my first business partners. Those early connections kept me motivated. I loved reconnecting and working with the people who joined my team from all different areas of my life.” After 18 months in business, Kristin hit Level V and felt even more excited about her business. “My team leaders, my Customers and the people I’ve met through this business are such a source of inspiration, learning, camaraderie, and laughter. I can’t imagine my life without them.”

Making the big change

About two-and-a-half years into her R+F journey, Kristin earned her biggest reward to date: flexibility. “I left my consulting job in September 2016. It was a really grueling decision because I was with the company in some capacity for almost 20 years — it was a big part of my identity. But it was getting harder and harder for my family to juggle everything, and I really wanted more time to focus on my business and my family. ”

Kristin knows that her decision was the right one. “My business has been the most amazing gift for our family. I love picking the kids up from school every day and having the flexibility to attend all of their games and activities. Plus, we have been able to travel a lot more, which is something we really love. I never thought I could have a career I am so passionate about and still be a present mom, but R+F has given me that reality. I only wish I would have started this when my boys were younger!”

Belonging to a team

As Team Spark continues to grow, Kristin rejoices that the sense of belonging to a team has returned — and with it her spark, her passion. “I’ve always thrived in a team environment and when contributing to goals that are bigger than just me. As soon as I started my R+F business, I had something to be really passionate about again. I felt re-energized and I had big dreams for the future!”

As a Premier V leader, Kristin dreams of earning her Lexus by helping those on her team find their own success. “One of the things I love most about R+F is the amazing people I get to work with. They inspire me, motivate me to work harder, and truly make me want to be a better person. I love mentoring my team and helping them reach their goals! My mission now is to help other people find their passion and spark like I did. That’s really important to me.”
