Laura Bangar – Making the Most of Your Time
Wednesday, November 19, 2014

Her entire life, Laura Bangar was determined to have a full-time, professional career. At the age of 18, she left home, hoping to venture into the corporate world. She got a job at a bank, while starting her college career, and loved her work there. She was convinced being a stay at home mom wasn’t for her, until three and a half years later when she had her first child. At that point, Laura wanted nothing more than to stay home.

Laura loves that her business gives her the opportunity to make the most of her time.

Stretched for time, she didn’t know how she would find a way to be with her child when she was working full-time and going to school full-time as well. Since a few of her customers at the bank had found success in direct sales, Laura started looking into direct selling companies. Nothing caught her eye until one evening on Facebook, during her maternity leave, she happened to see a post about Rodan + Fields®. “I had no idea what it was or that it was the Doctors, but I knew the timing was right for me.”

Laura contacted the Consultant who had written the post and said she was interested in joining her team. A month later, she enrolled as an Independent Consultant. “I will admit, I chickened out at first because I was working so much and was concerned I wouldn’t have time with a new baby, but I eventually realized that I had to at least try or I’d be forced to give up time with my child that I couldn’t get back.”

Within three months of working her business part-time, she began to see success. “I thought that was a sure sign that I should leave my job at the bank, but then I got scared again and couldn’t bring myself to quit.”

Laura was nervous. She told her husband to set a goal for her to reach for the next month. If she met it, she would know the time was right for her to leave the bank. “He told me to add 40 people to my team and I thought, ‘Oh great, I’ll never get to come home!’”

The next month, Laura added 54 people to her team. Only five months into her business, she decided to quit her job at the bank. Laura’s persistence with her business has resulted in several impressive milestones. On the night she quit the bank, she reached Level V, and, shortly after that, Laura’s husband decided to follow his passion of being a worship leader. “It amazes me that over the course of two years, we were both able to come home, move to a new area of Mississippi to start a ministry, and go on mission trips, which has always been a dream of mine.”

Four people from Laura’s team earned their Lexus at the same time: Laura, her mom, and her two sisters.

Laura is stunned at the success she experienced in such a short amount of time. “I was 21 when I started my business and didn’t have a college degree yet. The personal growth that I’ve experienced is shocking. I am a completely different person now.”

When Laura first started her business, she was terrified of public speaking. One of the reasons she hadn’t finished college was because she couldn’t finish her speech class. “I was terrified. I would break out in hives before speaking in front of a crowd, but with R+F, I have overcome that fear because I know when I stand up and speak, I am offering everyone an opportunity–whether to improve their skin, or gain the confidence to grow a business. Knowing that gives me the courage to share.”

This past year, during the Lead the Way incentive program, Laura worked her business from her hospital bed, 40 weeks pregnant with her second child. “Over the course of six months, I moved, gave birth, and still grew my business. That says a lot about the business because it really is doable if you are willing to work at it, but the fact that you can do it around your schedule makes it so manageable.”

During those six months, Laura earned her Lexus, and achieved the highest milestone in the Lead the Way Program. Now with two kids, Laura is relieved that her business fits into her life so easily and enables her to maximize her time. She hosts two meetings a week in order to share her business and network in her community. “Being able to coach others and seeing myself in that leadership role, is so rewarding. I came into this without much expectation, but it’s so much more than I expected.”

She has gained incredible friends, and the support Laura found in the R+F community has shown her the importance of actively encouraging others. “Too often people don’t believe in their dreams. But just taking the time to let them know their worth and that they can achieve their goals if they dedicate the time and stay determined can make all the difference in giving them the confidence to succeed.”

Laura is so grateful for the personal growth she has experienced and the confidence she has gained through building her business.

Laura’s personal goals are to start an orphanage and to train for a marathon. “Those are both things I always wanted to do. Now, I have the belief in myself to tackle both because my business has enabled me to see that we can do anything we set our minds to.”

Laura focuses on making the most of her time and cherishing each day. Her experience with R+F reinforced that mindset by helping her see that dreams are worthwhile and, if we believe in ourselves, we can accomplish our goals. “Life is too short not to follow your dreams and I have an opportunity in my hands that can change someone’s life. It certainly changed mine, and it would be selfish of me not to share this with everyone.”
