Meredith Kresge – Time Is Precious

Meredith Kresge worked in the demanding real estate industry for more than 10 years, giving her all to every minute. But as her family grew, her rigorous career seemed far less attractive. “I always worked on other people’s schedules and not my own. I carted my children around when they were babies, showing property and going to closings with them in their pajamas. I made it work. But I’m really glad they don’t remember those days — it wasn’t a proud time for me as a mom!” Although she was far too busy and it was starting to wear thin, Meredith hadn’t considered making a career shift.

“Honestly, I was a bit of a negative nelly. When my girlfriend and fellow real estate agent Marissa McDonough reached out to me about Rodan + Fields, my answer was an emphatic ‘no’. Even though I knew nothing about the opportunity, I didn’t have the time, and I really didn’t have enough room on my plate.” However, Meredith grew more impressed as she followed Marisa’s journey. “I watched her grow as a woman, a mom, and a wife. After a while, my curiosity got me talking with her about her business. I started asking more questions. Once I really started to figure out what R+F was, a lightbulb went on in my head.”

Learning to hope

At the same time, Meredith was interested in testing out Rodan + Fields products for herself. “When I discovered R+F, I was dealing with hormonal acne that my existing skincare routine just didn’t touch. By that point in my life, I had never once experienced clear skin. Everything I tried for acne hadn’t worked. From the simplest topical ointments to the most complex prescriptions from my dermatologist, nothing seemed to help.” Though she worried these products might be next on her list of failed experiments, Meredith called Marissa to order UNBLEMISH.

“When we started talking, I actually ended up enrolling in the business. It’s super ironic. I returned my first Preferred Customer package from Rodan + Fields because I had a business kit on the way!” Meredith launched her R+F business in February 2011, with every intention of returning her business kit if the products didn’t end up performing. “I felt convinced I would end up sending my kit back after 60 days. But if these products did work, I was determined to get the biggest possible discount on them and have the ability to mix and match products from the entire collection.”

A promising first year

Two weeks into using the UNBLEMISH Regimen, Meredith noticed the appearance of her skin drastically changing. She’s gone completely makeup-free ever since. “Of course, my skin became a big conversation starter. People were always asking what I was doing differently, and as a brand new believer in the product, that was an instant door opener. I started sharing every chance I got!”

Meredith leveraged the power of word of mouth, referrals, and networking, all skills developed during her years in real estate, to grow her R+F business. “I took it on in baby steps. My first goal was to reimburse the cost of my kit, and I achieved that in my first 30 days in business. Later, my husband Lance and I were surprised that my business earnings helped cover our household expenses.”

Seeing big benefits

An even bigger benefit for Meredith was earning additional income from home, with her children. She slowly increased her R+F workload to 25-30 hours per week. “Even though I didn’t think I had time for anything else, I just opted for a bigger plate. Molding my Rodan + Fields business into my already full life was an absolutely huge accomplishment for me!”

Meredith’s hard work also started to provide financial relief for her family. “Lance and I are both tied to the most volatile industry out there. I was so used to depending on a closing to pay the bills. But after all these years working, I feel like I can finally rely on my monthly commissions. It’s become our plan B, our cushion, and our number one way of being prepared in case the real estate industry declines again. My R+F business couldn’t have come into my life at a more perfect time!” After three years as an Independent Consultant, Meredith stepped away from real estate for good.

Discovering her passion

Meredith credits invaluable coaching from Marissa and other local leaders Romi Neustadt and Josh and Nicole Cormany for her fast start and rising success. “From the beginning, I was immersed in a group of already very successful people who were more than willing to teach what they knew. That’s honestly what set me up for success and helped me overcome the mental challenges of this business. This has always been a mental game for me. Mastering the psychology of running my own business has probably been my biggest obstacle, but with the coolest result!”

Through her own professional and personal development, Meredith started coaching her team members through their own tough moments. “I’ve watched individuals become completely different people through this business, in so many beautiful ways. I’m passionate about helping people build a healthy mindset and truly believe in themselves. I really believe if you can get that mental aspect aligned with everything else, nothing can stop you.”

Gratitude and growth

Looking back, Meredith is deeply thankful for the relationships she’s made throughout the R+F journey so far. “My team is my tribe, and to be honest I don’t know what I would do without them. More than anything, I love empowering individuals on my team. We’ve created a very authentic and transparent team culture, and we help each other rise. That’s literally what gets me up in the morning — knowing that I have an opportunity to share that could completely alter the fabric of their future. I never made that kind of impact in real estate. The fact that I do this every day… It’s absolutely priceless to me.”

In the future, Meredith plans to continue teaching her daughters that a woman can do truly amazing things with the time she’s given on this planet. “I love that even at such a young age they’re already realizing what’s possible. The truth is, time is literally our most precious commodity. Rodan + Fields has taught me to harness each moment to make an impact. In the end, I want to be content with how I spent my days. I won’t regret a single moment!”

What is your dream R+F trip? Cannes is on my bucket list.

What did you want to be when you grew up? CSI crime scene investigator but I eventually went to school to be a landscape architect.

Favorite pet? My doggie, Frankie Mae.

What is your best R+F experience? Every day, I’m accomplishing something I never thought I was capable of — while helping other members of my team rise to the same accomplishment.

What is your best R+F team memory? Our beach retreat in Carlsbad, 2017. 28 of our top leaders arrived barely knowing each other and left with an unshakeable sisterhood.
