Molly Khan – Passionately Serving Others

Posted by Rodan + Fields on Thursday, April 19th, 2018

As a GYN Oncology nurse, Molly Khan got to spend her days fulfilling her passion for serving others. “I loved making connections and hearing people’s stories. There is no replacement for the connection that you make with people when they’re dying. But at the same time, it was mentally and physically grueling work. I was working weekends and holidays, my husband Tony was traveling every week, and it felt like we were in a never-ending hamster wheel. I didn’t want to have to exchange my time for money anymore.”

Molly was on maternity leave with her second child when she started searching for an alternative. “I literally found this incredible opportunity on Facebook, when my friend Lea May posted about her Rodan + Fields leader who recently earned a trip to Paris. I’ve always been entrepreneurial, so that really piqued my interest.” Molly signed up as an Independent Consultant in July 2013, just two days after her first phone call. “It still brings me to tears, remembering the day I sat in my playroom and learned about R+F. I’m just so grateful this came into my life. I can still feel the incredible emotions of that day, and that excitement still carries me four and a half years later.”

Ambition and inspiration

Molly got straight to work on her new business, putting in at least 20 hours per week and giving her full effort to meeting other leaders. “In Rodan + Fields, we say that leaders always show up. I showed up to every business presentation. I listened to Romi Neustadt’s training calls every single week. I connected with other leaders at Summit in Nashville and heard Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields speak. That was the most powerful experience! I was so proud to have the opportunity to work with and learn from these incredible women.”

With help from her mentors and her own determined mindset, Molly put in the effort to make her R+F business a success. “I built a business with zero experience, and I think that’s what makes Rodan + Fields so special. I just blindly and happily went out and shared my excitement about these products and this business. I hoped it would be for me what it was for so many other people. I was just so excited!” Molly met her initial financial goals and hit Level V by the end of her first year.

Dealing with difficulty

For Molly, the most challenging part of building a skincare business was facing the unknown. In joining R+F, she dove head first into an unfamiliar industry and did something completely out of her comfort zone. “Some days were hard, of course, but I just trusted and believed in myself and the people who were successful before me. I saw this opportunity as a vehicle to change our lives and to change lives in our community. That’s why I continue to show up. Even when I felt tired or discouraged, I never doubted my belief in the Rodan + Fields brand.”

Molly shares this important lesson with each member of Team Titanium. “Four and a half years into this business, I’m inspired every single day by our team of over 500 people in Canada, the United States, and Australia who are willing to face their fears. Especially in the beginning, it can be hard to handle when people don’t quite understand what you’re doing and don’t see the potential the way you do. That’s why we have to help people see that Rodan + Fields is redefining this model and doing things differently. We are paving a new way for women and men to achieve their goals.”

Selfless giving

Over the past few years, Molly’s ‘why’ has grown to encompass this incredible vision. “Plenty of people say R+F is about so much more than skincare, and it really is for me. Originally I thought I just wanted to help pay for our kids’ preschool bill. But learning about buildOn at Convention in Atlanta and going on the Rodan + Fields Prescription for Change Foundation’s Change Maker trip really changed what I thought this business was about and reminded me of my bigger purpose. My grandmother was committed to helping others achieve college degrees, and I would love to continue that service in my community — to help create equal access for students to reach their full potential and to help break the cycle of low expectations and poverty. I realized that, with my Rodan + Fields business, I have the opportunity to change more lives than ever before.”

“I absolutely miss bedside nursing. But my desire to serve has shifted, and I see R+F as the next chapter. I feel so blessed that I get to help people change the appearance of their skin, which changes their self-confidence, and ultimately changes their story. The best part, though, is changing the lives of my team members who choose to jump in on this crazy and wonderful journey. That’s the thing that gets me jumping out of bed, excited to keep building and sharing.”

The time to serve

Looking forward, Molly dreams of giving back in big ways and spending each moment of her time wisely. “The thing that really pushes and motivates me is that I know the harder I work, the more I can give back. I hope to be a voice for many in my community, and to share one of life’s greatest lessons: vulnerability.”

Working from anywhere allows Molly to be present every day for her kids.

“It makes our quality of life so much better, especially when we realize we’re not guaranteed time. So many of my patients weren’t talking about how great their career was — they wanted more time with their families, more time to be present in the lives of the people they loved. Being vulnerable enough to face some of my biggest fears has shown me my purpose and why I’m here. I now have time-freedom and I’m able to give it back in such a big way. I still feel so grateful, every day, that I accepted this opportunity. I’m determined to make the most of it.”
