Molly Koch – Soaring to New Heights

Posted by Rodan + Fields on Tuesday, October 31st, 2017

Molly Koch is an incredibly motivated and focused person. Rising at 3:00 a.m. each morning, she goes for a run to keep in triathlon shape. She then returns home to get her four kids up and fed before school. Next stop is her day job in the aerospace industry, where she ensures compliance of imports and exports for 12,000 employees worldwide. After work it’s off to school to collect the kids and take them to their various sports and activities. And, amazingly, in the midst of all that Molly has developed a booming business of her own. “I can never understand when people say that they are too busy. I believe that busy people get things done, and that what you put in is what you get out.”

Overcoming turbulent times

Molly’s positivity and drive are astounding, especially considering the setbacks and tragedies that have befallen her and her family. Her first son, Brady, was born with special needs, and spent his life in and out of hospitals and therapy, passing at just two years of age. Molly and her husband Bryan were truly heartbroken, and Molly felt that the experience took its toll on her physically as well as mentally. “I went through so much stress with all of the uncertainty about Brady. At the same time I was trying to hold the family together and maintain some normalcy at work. I felt haggard; like I had aged quickly over those years.”

Molly’s brief time with Brady has made her particularly reluctant to miss out on time with the couple’s four other children. “I had learned how precious life really is, and the importance of cherishing every moment with my kids that I can.” Unfortunately, however, she couldn’t see an alternative to her full-time schedule. “I had resigned myself to my career. I had a dream of being a stay-at-home mom, but thought that it would never be a reality.”  She had tried starting her own online boutique from home, but found that it was very demanding, leaving her even less time to spend with her children. However, a business that would work for her was right around the corner.

A smooth take-off

In January 2014, Molly attended a ‘New Year, New You’ party at a friend’s house. It was there that she met Virginia Schneider, and was introduced to the Rodan + Fields skincare line. The products appealed to her, so she bought some, and loved the results. “People were complimenting me on my skin. After feeling like the appearance of my skin had suffered over the years, this was a great boost of confidence.” Despite having no intention of going into business as an Independent Consultant, she bought her own Business Kit. “I just wanted a discount on the products, because I loved them so much. But when I bought the kit in May 2014, Virginia convinced me to have a Big Business Launch.” On the night of her BBL, Molly sold enough products to pay off her kit. “That was when it clicked, when I saw that R+F was a real opportunity.”

So Molly took on this new enterprise and ran with it. The R+F model contrasted markedly with her online clothing business, which she had already closed. “The boutique business ran me ragged. I had to maintain the website, process the orders, and package the clothes myself. Each morning I would be at the post office at 4:00 a.m., sending off orders. And then I’d have to do all the customer service myself too—it was just too much!” But Molly was glad to see that with R+F, quite the opposite was true. “I was so pleased to see that this business is conducive to a busy lifestyle. R+F handles everything, and I feel like all I have to do is talk to people, make connections, and share my passion for the products.”

Clear skies ahead

Three years in, Molly is a Premier V, and her team is on track to achieve Lexus volume in the near future. Molly has built her business around her full-time career, fitting in time early in the mornings or in the evenings after her kids go to bed. To start with, she worked her R+F business 1-2 hours per week, but she has upped that to 4-6 hours as her business has grown. And business has grown so much that Molly can now envision a future in which she might someday fulfill her dream of being a stay-at-home mom. “I had these kids to be their mom. I believe that a strong and stable home life is essential for children, and I want to be there to give them that. And now, with my R+F business thriving, something that I never thought could be a reality is very close to happening.”
