Nickki Cluck – Staying Humble, Coachable, and Consistent
Friday, September 20, 2013

Nickki Cluck learned three important words at an early age: humble, coachable and consistent. First spoken to her by her coach when she was a young girl, the wisdom of those three words helped shape her life thereafter. From a high school basketball team to college, marriage, and into motherhood, she took the advice with her, and still carries it with her today. Nickki became a Rodan + Fields® Independent Consultant in the winter of 2012, and has used those words to grow and strengthen her business, and her success.

Nickki first heard about Rodan + Fields from a close friend, who for years had suffered from skin troubles. Despite being married to a plastic surgeon and being a doctor herself, she could never find a solution to her sensitive skin and adult acne. So, when Nickki saw over dinner one night that her friend’s face was clear and glowing, she wanted to know her newfound secret so that she could try the products for herself. When she saw how effective they were, she was so impressed that she decided to sign up to be an Independent Consultant so she could share the Rodan + Fields products with others. A former teacher, she has since left her part time teaching job to concentrate full time on her Rodan + Fields business, and she says it has been a life-changing experience.

“One of the greatest aspects of working in this business is the time it gave back to me to devote to my family. I can now be the mom who is there to take my kids to school every morning. I can be there to pick them up every afternoon, and that means everything to me.”

She and her family are free to travel for eight weeks every year to Nickki’s husband’s family home in Colorado, a long-held family tradition. She describes a moment outside with her husband on a perfect, cloudless summer day, when she realized how fortunate she was for pursuing the business when she did. She was on the golf course with her husband enjoying a round of golf, and before the game was over, Nickki had received two phone calls that were new customers. “It made me realize how remarkable it is that I can be outside on a golf course enjoying summer while doing business. That isn’t something most people get to do, and for which I am grateful. I had to take twenty minutes of my time and I had two new customers. It was easy, and I want other people to experience that.”

Nickki has a goal of helping one hundred other people start their own Rodan + Fields Independent Consultant businesses within the next five years, and she has advice for how to pursue this kind of work. It all comes back to those three very important words she has remembered since childhood: humble, coachable and consistent. In order to get where she is today, she has held onto them. “You have to be willing to be coachable to embark on this in the first place.” She strongly believes that listening to three training calls a week is one of the keys to her own success, and emphasizes the importance of consistency in doing that. “Staying consistent is important, but it doesn’t have to be hard, or stressful.” Instead of watching TV, while folding laundry, for example, she listens to a training call. She works in the business around her everyday life, and by doing those small things every day, she has the freedom to go outside and pick up a golf club when she wants. Her dream is for other people out there to see that they can get this kind of life for themselves, at any time. She stresses that she hasn’t done it all on her own, and that is where that third valuable word comes into play: humble.

By staying humble, she says that it helps put life into perspective. “Whether someone needs help with a skin issue, or with starting their own business, their needs are important. And their success is just as important as my own success.” Remembering that, she shares a quote by Zig Ziglar that she keeps nearby at all times.

“If you can dream it, you can achieve it. You will get all you want in life by helping other people get what they want.”
