Nikki Willis – The perfect opportunity

Posted by Rodan + Fields on Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

When Nikki Willis became pregnant with her first child, she knew her busy nursing career wouldn’t allow her to be a stay-at-home mom like she wanted. So, when she stumbled across Rodan + Fields, becoming an Independent Consultant seemed like the perfect solution. “We were looking for a Plan B — something I could do at home, on my own time and I found Rodan + Fields by a social media post. I jumped in and started working my business. I was scared, but I knew I needed to try.”

Despite being a busy mother of two, Nikki put in 10-15 hours a week towards her business, and within nine months it was booming. This meant she had more time to spend with her little ones: Emmie Kate and Ridge. “What Rodan + Fields has done for me and my family has allowed me to be a present, at-home mother to my five-year-old and three-year-old. It’s allowed me and my family to have more time where I am not away from them so much.”

A twist of fate

Then, in March of last year, Nikki was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of lymphoma. “From March to September, I received inpatient hospitalized chemotherapy — a total of six weeks in the hospital. My husband was able to take off with no pay, and he would drive me four and a half hours to Vanderbilt Hospital, in Nashville, to get care. We would stay there a week and I would come home for two weeks and go back for another week.”

Thankfully, her work with R+F made it easier for her and her family to get through this difficult time. “It supplied the “plan B” during one of the most crucial times of our life, so my husband could be there for me during one of the scariest times of our lives. That was a big blessing to us. You don’t know how much that meant to me and my husband. Now I am in remission, and we are even more thankful for that great news.”

The magic of Team Willis

In addition to having an income stream during her illness, Nikki was grateful to receive incredible support from her R+F team while she underwent treatment. “They’re like a unicorn. They’re just unique — they’re magical. I’ve never seen anything like them. Especially when I was sick, they never lost focus. They never lost momentum and they are just very driven, caring, empowering, and encouraging people. They’re just amazing.”

Nikki is also in awe of the amazing personal relationships she’s built during her R+F journey, with her team members and beyond. “I had maybe three friends before I started this business and now have so many that I can’t keep count. It’s an empowering environment of women who actually want you to succeed and encourage you. I love the friendships I have formed from this business. R+F is like one big family!”

Loving work, gaining confidence

For Nikki, her R+F work doesn’t feel like a grind. “It’s definitely not like working in a corporate job away from your family where you clock in, clock out, and come home. It’s fun. You get to mingle; you get to meet new people. It’s not like work to me. It’s so much fun.” While building a business with Rodan + Fields has been more like play than work for Nikki, it hasn’t always been a breeze. “A lot of people don’t understand this type of business model, so you hear a lot of naysayers. That was probably my biggest challenge: hearing naysayers or people that don’t understand why you’re so passionate about this business. Once I’d overcome what other people thought about what I was doing, my business just exploded.”

Having confidence in herself and the work that she does is a huge part of what makes Nikki an accomplished businesswoman. “Even before I was successful, I had confidence that I was going to be successful. So I thought ‘OK, I’m going to do this and I’m not going to let it be portrayed any other way. I know it’s in me. I can. I will.’ I didn’t show any self-doubt. I coach my team that mindset is everything. Believe in yourself, believe you can, and never show any less!”

Doing the work

Her confidence and her incredible work ethic have earned Nikki her Premier Level V and a very recent Lexus Achievement. While she is thankful for all of her achievements, she doesn’t let them distract from her work. “My mentor, Adrienne Whatley, would tell me, ‘Nikki, you have accomplished this achievement, and you didn’t even know it!’ and I did! I just went and did the work. Head down, never giving up. And as cheesy as it sounds, Rodan + Fields changed my life. It really is Life-changing Skincare!”

To Nikki, her success isn’t anything unique to her and she tells her team they can achieve the same. “We all have a success plan laid out of what to do and when to do it. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Do what others have done before us who have been successful. Follow the leader. Just be doers, with your heart and mind, and be passionate about it. It really is that simple!”
