Dayna Schaaf – Redefining Your Life

Posted by Rodan + Fields on Thursday, April 11th, 2019

For Dayna Schaaf, there was no other career path in this world other than becoming an actor. However, she understood the instability that came with her dream, so she decided to work smarter, not harder. “All the smartest people I knew invested in themselves. I knew that I wanted to start some kind of business because I felt like it was going to be the key for me to live the life I wanted to live.” After a fellow actor friend told Dayna about the R+F business, she decided to purchase the largest Business Kit, allowing herself 60 days to give it a try and earn the money back. With substantial support and resources offered from her team, Dayna not only earned the cost of her kit back by achieving an early milestone, but also doubled her initial investment within the first three months which confirmed her belief in her R+F business.

Hitting A Crossroads
After just four months, Dayna hit Level III but then her life took a difficult turn. “Right around that time, my marriage started to fall apart. And when you’ve been with somebody for 10 years, you’re emotionally – and sometimes also financially – dependent on them.” Looking back now, Dayna saw that she only had two options if not for her R+F business. “Either I would have had to get a full-time job to support myself and give up on my acting career or stay in the relationship so I could continue being an actor. But because Rodan + Fields opened up their doors to me, I realized I could support myself.” And with the overwhelming support of her team, Dayna was able to hit Level V after two years into the business.

A New Reality
Shortly after this accomplishment, Dayna suddenly began to feel an unfamiliar decline in her body. After one year, with her condition showing no signs of improvement, her doctors ran some blood work and diagnosed her with an autoimmune disease, which was presenting as something between lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. “With lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, they work in flare-ups, which means that some days I can feel totally normal, then quite suddenly I’ll flare and can’t really do much other than sit on my couch.” These episodes brought intense pain and the inability to perform even the simplest of tasks. While attending support groups within the autoimmune disease community, Dayna heard many stories about people that were inclined to quit their jobs as they could no longer sustain the demands of a traditional work place. With R+F, she felt overwhelmingly grateful to be a part of a business that allowed her to rest and completely focus on restoring her body when needed.

“I’m realizing more than ever that there is a need for something like this. It’s an ‘at your own pace’ business. My R+F business has given me options while I fight this chronic disease. This business allows me to really focus on my health and I now feel positive about what the rest of my life looks like. After everything life has thrown my way and especially after this diagnosis, I’m doubly passionate about sharing this opportunity with everyone because you never know what life is going to throw your way.”

Looking Forward
Each new day may hold an unexpected turn in Dayna’s health, but knowing that she can continue acting while supporting herself inspires her to never hold back in life. “What I’m focusing on right now is how many people I can reach, help and give the gift of freedom so that they can figure out what they want to do. I want to let them know that they don’t need to be defined by their circumstance.”

Final Advice
“If you’re thinking about doing this, and you’re feeling that nervous feeling…take the leap. Somebody once told me that nervousness and excitement are different sides of the same coin. This is an exciting opportunity. It’s both exciting and scary when you start and you can’t have one without the other. I fully know that anyone coming into this business will have so much support and it will enhance their lives in ways they don’t even know yet.”

  2. Dayna,

I too have an autoimmune disorder and take care of my 82 year old father. Just took a leap of faith and quite my 22 year teaching career to pursue my dreams. Just became a consultant tonight hoping it will fill the gaps in finances and so much more. Your story encouraged me even more.
